New Female Hair Restoration Procedure Works Wonders
No Comments
If you are one of the millions of women who suffer from thinning hair or balding then you will want to learn about the drug Minoxidil and what it is doing to help women have thicker and fuller hair. Long used by men with male pattern baldness, this FDA approved drug is now being applied to female hair loss also.
About 60% of the patients who visits doctors regarding hair thinning and bald spots are women. Although there are several causes for thinning hair including hormonal changes, extreme diets, wearing tight ponytails or braids, and accidents, the majority of women have hair loss for the same reason that most men do. The cause is a genetically passed medical condition called Androgenic Alopecia. In men the common name for this problem is male pattern baldness, and in women it is female pattern hair loss but the results are the same. The hair follicles stop producing keratin which is the material hair shafts are made of.
FDA approved Minoxidil actually helps to protect the hair follicles from attack so they can continue to produce hair. A naturally occurring substance in the body, DHT, is responsible for the shut down of the hair. DHT will bond with receptors on the hair follicle (hair roots) and slowly choke off the nutrients and oxygen the follicles need in order to work properly. Minoxidil will bond with the same receptors but it seems to let the needed nutrients pass into the body of the follicle where it is converted.
Women who are interested in hair restoration will generally use a 2% solution of the drug while men use a 5% concentration. In both cases the substance is applied to the scalp morning and night and massaged in. If you think you are suffering from Androgenic Alopecia then see your doctor. Minoxidil is sold over the counter but it is better to always check with your doctor before starting a new treatment.
