  • The Types of Acne Skin Care Products

When we talk about acne skin care products, there are plenty of different products out there to choose from. Just walking through the skin care section in any store is enough to make one dizzy with the myriad of choices available. So, how does one sift through all of these products and choose the ones that are effective and good for your skin?

Well, first, you will have to look at the various types of acne skin care treatment products available on the shelves. Most of the topical creams you can get usually claim they are the best skin care products for acne or the best acne skin care products. However, there is no such thing as the best one product for your skin.

This is because we are all born with different types of skin and sensitivity. The range of skin care products for adult acne may seem a great idea to try out but it may not suit your skin. When you buy acne skin care product, you need to make sure that it suits your skin. If you have dry and sensitive skin, you might want to go for skin care products for acne that are moisturising and yet not too oily. It is pretty difficult to gauge unless you try them out yourself.

As for acne skin care treatment products, those that are available over-the-counter are usually topical creams or lotions that contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Benzoyl peroxide is one of the more effective acne treatment product that works to reduce the swelling, unclog the pores and heal the ugly pimple in the shortest time possible. It has compounds that works to slough off your dead skin cells and thus unclog your pores while at the same time, it also combats bacteria and help reduce the swelling. So, if you apply a topical cream with benzoyl peroxide on the affected area, it is known to quickly heal the angry red spot faster. This product comes in several types of concentration from 2.5% up to 10%. However, it is wise to go for the lowest concentration first because it is also pretty strong and may cause burning, itching, redness and peeling.

The other acne skin care treatment product, salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid that works almost like benzoyl peroxide where it also encourages your skin to shed the dead skin cells, stops your pores from clogging and thus, letting your skin to renew itself. It also has anti-inflammatory properties which reduces swelling. Again, if you have hyper-sensitive skin, it may also cause burning so it should be used sparingly the first time around.

Now, if you are concerned about the chemicals used in these acne skin care products, you can also try out natural acne skin care products that do not contain as much chemicals. Some could even be herbs that you ingest to fight acne from the inside out while others are the topical lotions or oils that you apply on the skin surface to speed up healing or to prevent more outbreaks.

A more popular and well-known natural acne skin care product is tea tree oil. It is known to have astringent abilities, soothes inflammation and is anti-bacterial which will reduce acne outbreaks. You can also try out products that contain neem, turmeric, sandalwood or even green tea because all these are traditionally used for smooth skin and to treat skin problems like acne before there were more human-made products.

Whatever final acne skin care products you chose to use in the end, it is always best that you try out small samples before going all out to put it all on your skin. First, your skin must be able to accept the treatment and the lotions you put on it and if it is proven effective, then you continue with the treatment. Otherwise, move on to other products that may help.
